What
is input?
Input is any data and instructions entered into the memory of a computer.
Commonly used input methods include:
·
Keyboard
·
Touch screens
Keyboard
– It is a text base input device that allows the users to input alphabets,
numbers and other characters. It consists of a set of keys mounted on the
board.
Most desktop computer keyboards provided by:
·
Typing area
·
Function keys
·
Toggle key
·
Directional keys
·
Media control buttons
·
Internet control buttons
Advantage
of keyboards
.1.An ergonomic keyboard has a
design that reduces the chance of repetitive strain injuries.
2.
Ergonomics incorporates
comfort, efficiency, and safety into the design of the workplace
Advantage wireless keyboard
1.
Transmits data using wireless
technology.
2.
Communicate with a receiver
attached to a part on the system unit
Touching Screen
-
A touch screen is a
touch-sensitive display device.
Environment that benefit from touch
screens:
- Travel information and public-transport.
- Processing tickets is made simple with as
automatic machine display.
- Lowering
operating costs for public transportation services.
- Restaurants
- Touch screens digital signages
allows employees to input and process payment
significantly more quickly than a standard PC interface.
- Industry
- a touch screen is durable, able to function even
when exposed to dirt and grime. This durability makes touch screens a
worthwhile investment for industrial setting and potentially unclean areas.
OUTPUT
DEVICES.
An output
device is any peripheral that receives data from a
computer, usually for display, projection, or physical reproduction. For
example, an inkjet printer is an output device that can make a hard copy of any information shown on
your monitor, which is another example of an output device. Monitors and printers are two of the
most common output devices used with a computer..
Types of output devices
The
following list contains many different output devices. For further information,
select any of the listings with blue text.
- 3D Printer
- Braille embosser
- Braille reader
- Flat panel
- GPS
- Headphones
- Computer Output Microfilm (COM)
- Monitor
- Plotter
- Printer (Dot matrix printer, Inkjet printer, and Laser printer)
- Projector
- Sound card
- Speakers
- Speech-generating device (SGD)
- TV
- Video card
A computer can still work
without an output device. However, without an output device, you'd have no way
of determining what the computer is doing, if there are errors, or if it needs
additional input. For example, you can disconnect your monitor from your
computer, and it will still function, but it's not going to be very useful.
PRINTERS
A printer is an external hardware output device that takes the electronic data stored on a computer or
other device and generates a hard
copy of it.
Printers are one of the most popular computer peripherals and are commonly used
to print text and photos.
Types of printers.
Below is a
list of all the different types of computer printers. Today, the most common
printers used with a computer are Inkjet and Laser printers.
- 3D printer
- All-in-one (AIO) printer
- Dot matrix printer
- Inkjet printer
- Laser printer
- LED printer
- Multifunction printer (MFP)
- Plotter
- Thermal printer
ADVANTAGES.
~ enables us to get computer output on paper.
It is one of the most popular computer output devices we often use to get
information on paper - called hard copy.
~ all-in-one printer is a device that prints, scans, copies and sometimes faxes.
Also known as the multifunction printer. It helps in converting hand drawn pictures into an
electronic format, for example, line
drawings, art, logos, signatures and diagrams.
~
photo printer produces in lab
quality pictures. Pictbridge allows us to print photos directly from a
digital camera (connects directly via through a USB cable without a PC).
~ ink-jet printer helps us to print project either color or black and
white. Speed is measured by the number of pages per minute (ppm) it can
print.
~
mobile printer allows a mobile user to
print from a mobile device.
~ 3D printing has been used to create car
parts, smartphone cases, fashion accessories, medical equipment and artificial
organs.
MONITOR
Monitors, commonly called as Visual Display Unit (VDU), are
the main output device of a computer. It forms images from tiny dots, called
pixels that are arranged in a rectangular form. The sharpness of the image
depends upon the number of pixels.
There are two kinds of viewing screen used for monitors.
- Cathode-Ray
Tube (CRT)
- Flat-Panel Display
Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT) Monitor
The CRT display is made up of small picture
elements called pixels. The smaller the pixels, the better the image clarity or
resolution. It takes more than one illuminated pixel to form a whole character,
such as the letter ‘e’ in the word help.
A finite number of characters can be displayed on a screen at once.
The screen can be divided into a series of character boxes - fixed location on
the screen where a standard character can be placed. Most screens are capable
of displaying 80 characters of data horizontally and 25 lines vertically.
There are some disadvantages of CRT −
- Large
in Size
- High power consumption
The flat-panel display is divided into two categories −
· Emissive Displays − Emissive displays are devices that convert electrical energy
into light. For example, plasma panel and LED (Light-Emitting Diodes).
· Non-Emissive Displays − Non-emissive displays use optical effects to convert
sunlight or light from some other source into graphics patterns. For example,
LCD (Liquid-Crystal Device).
ADVANTAGES.
~ most important parts of
your pc which displays the output from
the computer. Text and graphics video modes are the most basic ones
displayed by a monitor.
~ have display
functions that include powering it on and off, controlling brightness, contrast
and position, among others.
~
A computer monitor is a display adapter
that displays information processed by the computer's video card.
~
Dual monitor is good for large
projections, where the user can play
movies or videos on his monitor, and a copy is displayed on a larger projection
for a room full of people.
~ All monitors have a resolution type that it uses to display images.
